Donald Trump Jr.’s video of himself in a gun-filled room slamming teachers unions for fighting to keep children out of classrooms did not go over well with some Twitter users, who accused the former president’s son of advocating for violence against teachers.

“The degenerate son of the former president stood in front of a wall of guns while declaring teachers ‘out of control,’ seemingly oblivious to the many educators across this country killed by gun violence,” the Democratic Coalition tweeted.

The group was responding to Trump’s video in which he blasted teachers unions for holding back the return of in-person instruction from a gun-filled room.

“You’ve seen the way in the last couple of months — the way they’ve basically held up progress, prevented schools from opening,” Trump said on Twitter while linking to the video. “The teachers union and those representing them have definitely failed our children in terms of education and everything else.”

Some users thought that Trump’s tweet should get him banned from Twitter.

“Dear @TwitterSafety: This guy posing with guns while trashing teachers’ unions worries me,” education columnist Patti Bacchus tweeted. “Posts like this can incite actual violence. @Twitter @TwitterComms.”

“And I thought his dad was scary,” said former congressional candidate Elizabeth Hernandez.

Teachers unions from major cities across the country have resisted calls to return to the classroom, citing concerns over the spread of COVID-19 in schools.

Meanwhile, President Biden has said he is aiming for a return to in-person instruction by the end of April, saying during a recent CNN town hall that the majority of students should be in the classroom five days per week by his 100th day in office.

Trump also accused Democrats and unions of ignoring scientific evidence that shows that school-age children are less likely to develop serious illnesses caused by COVID-19.

“Whatever happened to follow the science?” Trump asked in the video. “It seems that the Biden administration only follows the science when it actually suits them.”

Trump, long known as a gun rights advocate, was one of his father’s most trusted advisers when it came to gun-related issues. That reality became clear when the former president was being pressured to introduce expanded background check legislation, a move he didn’t make in part to his son’s lobbying effort against it.
